Dresden, 1978. A funky-smelling dressing room. The Dynamo Dresden players celebrate their outstanding victory in the GDR championship. But their laughter stops when Erich Mielke - head of the notorious GDR security service STASI - storms into the locker room. He has not come to congratulate, but to make it clear that this was the last celebration of the popular club. From now on, his club, Berliner FC Dynamo, will take over the GDR upper league. In the following 10 years, Erich Mielke's favourite club is led to victory by dubious refereeing decisions, forced player transfers and sophisticated means of manipulation. The documentary tells the story of the rivalry between Dynamo Dresden and Berliner FC Dynamo, which was supported by the Stasi. While Berlin's club received every conceivable support from the state, it was much more difficult for Dynamo Dresden to achieve success. They were repeatedly confronted with clearly biased referees and training conditions that could not compete with those of the team favoured by Mielke. In a system of manipulation, the influence of the STASI on upper league football led to an uprising that began in the stadium and soon reached the streets of East Germany, heralding the end of the GDR.
